The Child Custody site served as a pilot course for the School of Social Work, with the hope that it would become one of many courses available online. The main objective in creating Child Custody was to teach the learner to be a critical thinker. By nature, social work has no right or wrong answers. Rather, decisions must be made on a case-by-case basis. Thus, the site needed to present situations with explanations that convey this message.
The course resulted in an online resource for social work professionals around the world. Not only did the design and content of the site meet objectives, but the overall project stands as an example of progressive teaching techniques that other schools of social work can look towards. By presenting course content online, SSW has broadened its audience and increased its ability for international discussion on the discipline.
